History of The Haven

In 2001, a group of concerned citizens came together to address homeless in the community. With the support of local residents, they founded a non-profit organization called Mattoon Area PADS (Public Action to Deliver Shelter). In 2002, they purchased an old building, and PADS officially opened its doors in January 2003. The kitchen followed later in December of the same year. In 2018, the organization began the process of rebranding and officially became “The Haven.” The grand opening of its new location took place on December 16, 2018, where the organization continues to operate today.
